December 04, 2023

Every year, the AZ Big Media AZ Business Angels Awards honors noteworthy organizations and individuals making a difference within Arizona’s communities. This year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona (BBBSAZ) President and CEO Laura Capello was highlighted as a Nonprofit Executive of the Year.

Nominated by Kate Hickman, Managing Director Commercial Banking of Alliance Bank of Arizona, Laura exemplifies the visionary leadership and unwavering dedication that drives positive change within the Valley. Herself a donor and Big Sister, Laura is deeply committed to BBBSAZ’s mentorship mission with nearly two decades of cumulative experience under her belt, almost 13 of which have been at its helm.

With Laura’s guidance, BBBSAZ has grown significantly in membership and services. The organization provides nearly 1,600 children with support annually, and Laura’s innovative spirit and commitment to partnerships have led to groundbreaking mentoring programs in collaboration with other organizations, such as Alliance Bank of Arizona, expanding the agency’s reach and impact. A steward of resources, Laura also helped BBBSAZ acquire its own building in January of 2023.

Among a very competitive field of Arizona’s top for-profit and non-profit leaders, only five nominees in 10 categories are honored with the award.
