Bank of Nevada Raises Hope and Donations at Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation Spin Cycle Event

May 15, 2023

LAS VEGAS - Approximately 11,000 families in Southern Nevada struggle with medical conditions related to Crohn's disease and colitis, often referred to as irritable bowel disease or IBD. Among those affected by IBD are several Bank of Nevada team members and their families, which is one of the reasons Bank of Nevada sponsored the 'Spin4 Crohn's & Colitis Cures' event.

The annual spin cycle experience was held at TruFusion in Summerlin where participants take part in one of four 30-minute, high-energy spin sessions under the guidance of a spin instructor.

Before the event, participants are encouraged to raise funds from friends, family and co-workers supporting the Nevada Chapter of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation. 'Spin4 Crohn's & Colitis Cures' was held on April 28 and included 114 spin cyclists and 15 teams who raised more than $111,000. Thanks to a generous $100,000 match the Marshall Family Philanthropic Fund provided, the total amount raised exceeded $211,000.

"Funds from this event are essential to what we do and provide to those affected by IBD in Nevada," said Jennifer Campbell, executive director of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation Nevada Chapter. "The funds raised at our event will support new and ongoing IBD research efforts and eventually create additional resources for IBD patients in Nevada."

A portion of the funds will go to the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV to build future programs and resources for southern Nevadans with IBD. Due to the low number of Southern Nevada physicians specializing in IBD compared with a high number of patients, Campbell says many must travel out-of-state for treatment which is expensive and requires time away from work and family.

The event's top fundraising team was Bank of Nevada which brought in $27,375 in donations. The top individual fundraiser was Bank of Nevada’s Aimee Burford who raised $7,850. Burford’s daughter, Hannah, has suffered with IBD since the age of two.
